Proven, reliable and manageable
The power of water has been used for thousands of years and is the oldest form of energy generation. People used it long before the industrial revolution and the use of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. Electricity has been gaining man’s energy from hydropower for over 130 years, using a controllable and proven technology. Hydropower is inexhaustible and does not show the strong fluctuations in performance of other alternative energy sources such as wind or sun — water flows continuously and around the clock, its power is independent of the weather. Hydropower technology has proven itself in practice over decades, is extremely long-lived, and plant manufacturers offer comprehensive performance guarantees. It is by far the most mature of renewable energies and essential for system stability and supply security of the energy sector, it compensates for the lack of storage capacity of other variable electricity productions.
Incomparably environmentally friendly
In Europe, the share of electrical energy from hydropower is only 14.9 percent. At the same time, water is an environmentally friendly resource right in front of our home, which offers great potential for the future.
CO2 savings
In addition, electricity generation from hydropower is one hundred percent free of emissions — neither carbon dioxide nor other toxic residues pollute the environment. For example, an average of 15.5 million tons of CO2 per year have been saved by hydroelectric power in recent years.
Hydroelectric power is therefore a key technology for the achievement of the EU climate and is therefore favorably promoted against other renewable energies.
